Preschool/Pre-K Program

Curriculum Description

St. James Preschool/Pre-K Program follows a planned theme for the week and has a structured daily routine that is center-oriented.  The learning centers include religion, reading, mathematics, play area, art, dramatic play, and ipads.

Our daily preschool routine consists of circle time, center activities, morning calendar, activity sheets, outdoor/gymnasium play, and group activities.  Children eligible for Kindergarten the following year will be given additional one-on-one learning activities- focused on letter, number, color, shape, and sound recognition.

A part of a well-planned program for young children includes "circle time.  Here children will have the ability to explore the calendar, weather, weekly themes, letter/sounds, numbers, music, finger plays, stories, games, and flannel board activities.  We will also learn prayers, The Pledge of Allegiance and patriotic songs.  We believe in hands on learning so the children have an opportunity to play, explore, experiment and discover while learning.

Preschool Subject Areas/Centers

Religion, Language Arts, Math, Manipulative Center, Dramatic Play Center, Art Center, Music Center, Science and Physical Education.

We plan several field trips throughout the school year.  Some of the field trips are local to the library, fire station and the park.  This past year we visited the St. Louis Zoo, Relleke and Pumkin Patch.

Each month we will be participating in the Scholastic book orders.  With each purchase the company donates several books back to the center.  We also earn bonus points on items purchased through our families.  Let's get these kids reading each day!!

This is a program offered through our grade school/parish.  There are gift cards available for purchase, and a percentage of the proceeds go back to the school.  Please ask for more details.
